Published Sunday, Nov 7 2004, 00:14 GMT | By Neil Wilkes
The X Factor has only just passed the halfway mark but plans already underway for an Australian version of the show, with auditions set to begin later this month.
The format of the antipodean series will be identical to the UK original; three judges will mentor contestants divided into 16-24s, over 25s and vocal groups.
The Ten network - the same channel that airs Australian Idol - has snapped up the rights to the series, which it plans to broadcast from early 2005.
"We know from our experience with Australian Idol that auditions set the stage for a hit show," said David Mott, Ten's general manager. "We are very excited to give Australia’s aspiring stars a shot at The X Factor."
Auditions will begin November 23 in Perth, taking in multiple cities before finishing in Sydney on December 15. Full details are available on the X Factor Australia website.
The members of the judging panel will be confirmed later this month.
