Luke O'Dell, an 18-year-old from Perth, performed his own song called 'Introvert Extrovert' on the reality TV series and received a unanimous "no" from judges Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Ronan Keating and Mel B.
For more than two hours after his television debut, O'Dell was trending worldwide on Twitter and downloads for the song forced the track into the iTunes top 100 overnight. The X Factor was also the most watched show of the evening with 1.526 million viewers, and the show's official website secured more than 155,000 new users on Tuesday.
As he walked on stage, O'Dell told the judges: "I watched Titanic and 'My Heart Will Go On' made me want to be a singer. Go Celine!" He then went on to perform Kelly Clarkson's 'Since You Been Gone'.
When the wannabe singer said that he thought his audition had gone "pretty good", Keating replied: "It didn't, Luke. Your timing was off, you were flat. It was just scary at times."

Mel B then laughed, saying: "Let me get this straight. You've been singing for ten years?" while Bassingthwaighte defended O'Dell, saying: "It wasn't that bad, come on."
The judges agreed to let O'Dell sing his own song afterwards and although they admitted that it was very "catchy", they all agreed: "It's a no from me."
Earlier this week, Mel B caused controversy by labelling her fellow judges "boring" and Bassingthwaighte later responded, saying that the Spice Girl "deserves a slap".
