Australian X Factor fans have expressed their outrage after Emmanuel Kelly was eliminated in last night's show.

The 17-year-old Iraqi war victim, who wowed judges Ronan Keating, Guy Sebastian, Mel B and Natalie Bassingthwaighte when he performed John Lennon's 'Imagine' for them two weeks ago, was sent home as 18-year-old twins Upfront were put through to the top 24 instead.

Sebastian told Kelly: "Yesterday you were great, today the challenge was not meant." Singer Wynter Gordon, who was helping Sebastian choose his top six contestants, added: "It was really sad, makes this job really difficult."

X Factor fans have now taken to Twitter to express their disappointment at Kelly's elimination. One wrote: "I'm done with the show," while another described themselves as "fuming with rage".

Earlier this week, Lennon's widow Yoko Ono tweeted about Kelly's performance of her late husband's hit song, writing: "Thank you, Emmanuel. You sang beautifully! Thank you. John would have been proud of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Love, Yoko."

Kelly was rescued and adopted by Children First Foundation boss Moira Kelly along with his brother Ahmed after they both suffered from limb deficiencies as a result of chemical warfare in Iraq.
