The television mogul, who created the international reality TV show format, said that he was impressed with judges Ronan Keating, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Guy Sebastian and Mel B and added that he also liked the latest X Factor Australia winner Reece Mastin.
According to the Herald Sun, Cowell sent a note to the Aussie TV crew congratulating them on the series and calling it a "massive step up" from last year's season.
Since being crowned the winner of the contest, 17-year-old Mastin has been recording his debut album in Melbourne ready for its release next week. His first single 'Good Night' has already hit the number one spot in the ARIA singles chart.
Last year's Australian X Factor was judged by Keating, Sebastian, Kyle Sandilands and Natalie Imbruglia.
Imbruglia said that Cowell had always told them: "It's my way or the highway. If you're going to do this show, it's going to be done how I do it."
Keating also said that Cowell was "120% behind" the Australian version, adding that he wanted it to be "big".
