The 40-year-old sales representative from Adelaide had two sons with ex-wife Oceana Glennon before they divorced three years ago. He claimed in an episode of the weight loss show earlier this week that she ended their marriage because he was "fat", but she has since said that he lied.
Glennon told News.com.au: "As soon as we got married, Simon started putting on weight. Simon had been grossly overweight for most all of our married life, so if I was going to leave him because he was fat, I would have done that long before. Had there not been a financial problem, I would never have left the marriage."
Hurley has since said that his marriage split was "complex", but insisted that his weight was "absolutely a contributing factor".
He added: "I certainly don't blame my wife in any way. I wish her nothing but the best."
However, Glennon responded: "A lot of the contestants have real heartbreaking stories that have contributed to their weight, but Simon was never overweight or obese as a child or a teenager. There hasn't been that trauma or anything in his life that made him put on the weight. He was always massively overweight, so I just think he doesn't have another reason for his weight, so he's pulled that card out. It's an excuse.
"Last night I had dreams of being stabbed in the back all night. I was so personally upset at what he said. That's not the sort of person I am, I'm a compassionate, empathetic person and I would never judge anybody on their personal appearance in any way."
Earlier this week, Hurley's teammate Shane Edwards was eliminated from the show.
