The 28-year-old former Australian Idol contestant, who is best known for songs such as 'The Prayer' and 'Rain', is rumoured to be in the running as a mentor on the Nine Network reality singing show when it premieres this year.
Callea told The Daily Telegraph: "Nothing's confirmed. I can't say much but it is something I would love to do."
He added: "I want to see Vanessa Amorosi on the show [too] - Australia has never had a vocalist like her."
Callea has been working on his latest album for the last 18 months and reportedly hopes to release it soon. His new material is said to be more of a dance genre than his previous work.
He said: "It's been so exciting to walk into a studio without a plan and make music from scratch."
Callea, who is in a long-term relationship with former Home and Away actor Tim Campbell, backed up Lady GaGa in July when she said that gay marriage should be legalised in Australia.
"I just think whether you want to or not, the choice should be there," he said. "It's about having the same rights as anyone else and I think it's great what New York has done. Hopefully we'll follow soon."
Callea's fellow Australian Idol alumnus Guy Sebastian became a judge on the Australian version of The X Factor earlier this year.
