Darnell Swallow was the first housemate to be evicted on the final night of Big Brother 9, finishing in fifth place.
The 26-year-old songwriter was quiet during the opening weeks in the house, but came to the fore after being voted the first Head Of House.
He spent a lot of time in the house expressing concern at how he was being perceived in the outside world. He also became involved in a complex relationship with fellow housemate Sara.
His first conflict in the house came during the orchestra challenge on Day 10, when he rowed with Mario about who should play specific instruments. He described Mario as a "beast" during the altercation.
On Day 21, he completed his first stint of bird with Dennis after they discussed nominations. Darnell said it would be the "easiest 18 hours" he had ever done compared to his time in prison outside the house.
Darnell became involved in the huge row on Day 23 after he heard that Dennis had spat on Mohammed. He burst into the luxury bedroom to confront the "Whisper Club", who defended Dennis's actions.
His argumentative streak ended up costing the housemates victory during Day 30 when they were participating in the musical task. Big Brother cancelled the challenge after Darnell "dissed" him in the Diary Room.
On Day 39, he beat Luke and Dale to be elected Head Of House. He sacrificed himself during the second week of the divide when he ate a banana during the gorilla task, which meant he automatically went to Hell.
He was put up for eviction alongside Bex and Mohammed on Day 48, but survived the chop. After the nomination results were revealed, Darnell admitted that he had nominated Rex and was sent to jail for his trouble.
He was placed up for eviction a third time alongside eight other housemates on Day 55 for discussing nominations, but was saved by the public.
Darnell remained in Hell for a second week after proving unsuccessful in the chilli challenge, but was moved back to Heaven following the alphabet task.
On Day 61, his close friendship with Sara took a turn for the worse when he jumped into bed with her and she immediately got under the covers with Stu, saying that she was "scared" of his flirting. Darnell was deeply embarrassed and tried to sleep in B-block before Big Brother told him to return to Heaven.
Four days later, Darnell and Sara rowed again, this time over her suggestion that he would want to have sex if they shared a bed. The following day he came clean about his feelings, admitting that he fancied her.
He later revealed that he felt Sara had "used" him to get to Stu. He also told Sara that he feared their rocky friendship could be his "downfall". Their relationship hit an all-time low when he called her an "ugly bitch" and a "slut" on Day 82. He was later reprimanded for his comments by Big Brother.
Darnell reconciled her differences with Sara on Day 85 when she was up for nomination alongside Lisa. They later flirted in the pool after she was saved by the public.
Darnell fretted that he may be viewed as a "village idiot", but was self-aware enough to claim that he should win Most Paranoid Housemate at the Big Brother's Little Brother awards.
On Day 84, Darnell provided one of the most entertaining moments of the series when he and Mikey covered Elton John And Kiki Dee's hit 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' in fancy dress for the Viva Las Vegas task.
During his final weeks, he threatened to leave the house on more than one occasion, citing his feelings of anger and bitterness and a row with Kat as the reasons. He and Kat had a heated argument on Day 88 after he joked that he would choose to evict her over Sara. However, he was devastated when she was evicted on Day 90.
