A new episode of CSI: New York beat Big Brother in the ratings last night.

According to early figures, highlights of Sam's final day in the house drew an average of 2.4 million viewers - a 13.5% audience share of the available audience - between 9.05pm and 9.55pm.

The Five crime drama pulled in a marginally better 2.41 million (13.9%) from 9.25pm. BB ranked fourth overall during the 9pm hour, with ITV1's Murder In Suburbia (3.9 million, 22.4%) and BBC One's news update (4.03 million, 22.6%) also faring better.

Later in the evening, BB rival Celebrity Love Island managed 3.04 million (19.6%).

An unusually hot day meant that viewing figures were down across the board.
