Shilpa calls police over number leak

Shilpa Shetty has made a formal complaint to police after her private telephone number was leaked to hundreds of people in a mass email.

A fan of the Bollywood star managed to get hold of her number and distributed it. Shetty then started to receive numerous calls and messages.

Shetty complained to police alleging harassment, and asked them to trace the person who sent out the number.

Her publicist, Dale Bhagwagar, said she was very anxious and "perturbed" by the harassment, saying: "Some want to date her, some want to just listen to her voice, some want to inquire if her musical Miss Bollywood is doing fine and some call just to check if they are speaking to the real Shilpa Shetty."

The Celebrity Big Brother winner has now stopped using the number and Mumbai police have started investigating who might have leaked it. If found, the fan could face up to six months in jail for illegally using the internet to publicise a private telephone number and for harassment.
