The film, which is being described as a cross between My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Shaun Of The Dead, focuses on an Indian mother who is obsessed with getting her daughter married off.
The cast also includes Shabana Azmi, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Mark Addy.
Chadha said: "What a huge treat to be working with such a great ensemble of actors. Nothing excites me more as a director than to take a group of actors from such different places and put them all in the same movie with very funny and quite moving consequences."
The director, best known for Bend It Like Beckham, co-wrote the story with her husband, Paul Mayeda Berges.
It's A Wonderful Afterlife began filming in London earlier this month and is scheduled for an early 2010 release.
