Sujoy Ghosh has begun work on a sequel to Aladdin before the first film has even been released.
Ghosh, who is best known for directing Jhankaar Beats in 2003, confirmed that Aladdin 2 is in development despite the original project failing to meet its Christmas 2008 release date.
Speaking to The Times of India, Ghosh explained that Amitabh Bachchan's busy schedule had made it difficult for him to wrap up shooting.
He added: "The film is heavy on visual effects and such films usually take around four years to be made. Pre-production for Aladdin took around a year-and-a-half. You can be more relaxed with projects like Jhankaar Beats, but Aladdin needed a lot of research and attention because there's a lot of money at stake."
Ghosh confirmed that Aladdin, which also stars Sanjay Dutt, will now be released later this summer.
