India's filmmakers will showcase a series of low-budget films at the Cannes Film Festival, it has been revealed.

ANI reports that "modestly budgeted" Bollywood movies such as Kites are using the event in hope of achieving cross-culture success, following the wide appeal of Slumdog Millionaire.

Other films such as the Sir Ben Kingsley-starring Teen Patti will be searching for a distributor in the Western markets.

Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor's Kambakkht Ish has also been lined up to screen at Cannes.

The film stars Sylvester Stallone in his Bollywood debut.
