Published Monday, May 18 2009, 09:32 BST | By Sanjay Odedra

Mehra, who was admitted to a Mumbai hospital earlier this month, died yesterday from pneumonia and multiple organ failure.
The legendary Bollywood director began his career behind the camera with Haseena Maan Jayegi in 1968, followed by Mela three years later.
However, Mehra is best known for giving Amitabh Bachchan his first big break in 1973 hit Zanjeer. The duo teamed up another six times, ending with 1989 flop Jaadugar.
Bachchan recently rubbished rumours that he had fallen out with Mehra while visiting the filmmaker in intensive care.
