The duo have apparently been offered roles in an international film based on Saadat Hasan Manto's novel 'Tobe Tek Singh'.
Khan will reportedly play a character who is institutionalised in a mental asylum in 1947.
Nalin plans to cast Winslet in the role of a psychologist, with Rachel Weisz also in consideration for the part.
The director said: "Either Kate or Rachel will be doing my film. I will be meeting both of them after my Cannes trip to finalise the casting. Either of them will be able to do justice to this marvellous story."
