Kumar recommended the South Indian actress for the role after seeing her perform in Tamil film Abhiyum Naanum.
Confirming the casting news, Priyadharshan said: "Trisha is playing the heroine opposite Akshay Kumar in this film. Akshay was keen on doing the film with a new face... and after seeing Trisha’s performance in a few South Indian movies, Trisha has become his only choice."
Krishnan added: "Priyadarshan is the person who has introduced me to films. Even after I completed Lesa Lesa, I was not of the idea of continuing my career as an actress.
"But Priyadarshan only guided me properly and advised me to continue. Now once again he is giving me a new dimension through his Hindi movie. I’m glad that Priyan has given me this opportunity and all I want is to go and do my best."
Khatta Meeta is expected to begin shooting towards the end of this year.
