Kambakkht Ishq has been well received in the US, with The New York Times calling the film "aspirational" and "frenetic".
The newspaper said that the movie, which was written and directed by Sabbir Khan, has an unrelenting desire to entertain and is driven by a "thumping" techno soundtrack.
"[The] 'I hate you, I hate you, I love you' plot breaks no new ground in the gender wars. But Kambakkht Ishq is aspirational in another sense," read the review.
"To end the opening montage of Hollywood sights and glossy American stars, Mr Kumar comes flying through a window on a motorcycle. Bollywood, the film seems to be saying, is ready to crash Hollywood's party."
However, the picture did attract some criticism for its crude jokes and "a few unpalatable racial bits".
