Padukone, who was diagnosed with the illness last week, had previously been ordered to stop shooting and remain in bed by doctors.
She told IANS: "I'm recovering. I was bedridden for three days. And yes, I did return to the set. I had to shoot. But I'm not sure whether it was the wisest of decisions, considering it was malaria."
Padukone will next be seen in Imtiaz Ali's Love Aaj Kal, which is released on Friday.
