Feroz Abbas Khan has revealed that he was "pleasantly surprised" when Gandhi My Father picked up three National Awards.

The 2007 film, which relays the strained relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his eldest son Harilal, picked up prizes for best screenplay, a special jury award for best film, and best supporting actor for Darshan Jariwalla.

Khan told IANS: "I was pleasantly surprised to hear about it as I was not anticipating it. I had never made a film before and I was deeply moved to hear it, as I had given a lot of conviction and my experience in dealing with actors and scripts into the film."

Kannada actress Uma Shri won the best actress title for playing a Muslim widow in Gulabi Talkies. Meanwhile, Prakash Raj received the best actor gong for Priyadarshan's Tamil film Kanchivaram, which also won best feature film.
