Rape charge Ahuja gets bail

Shiney Ahuja has been given bail after three months of custody in a Mumbai jail for the attempted rape of his domestic servant.

The Life In A ...Metro star was arrested in June when his maid accused him of raping her after he called her into his bedroom on the pretext of wanting a glass of water.

His wife Anupam expressed her relief to IANS: "This decision by the court has been overwhelming.

"I am so happy that our daughter has got her father back, Shiney's parents have got their son back and I have got my husband back."

Ahuja has had previous bail applications denied for fear that he would attempt to influence or blackmail witnesses for the prosecution. He has now been released under the conditions that he does not leave Mumbai or attempt to contact witnesses.

Anupam added: "I am thankful to all those who prayed for Shiney's well being and all those who gave good arguments in the court. The case was presented very well."

If the actor is convicted, he faces a minimum seven-year sentence.
