The Bollywood actor is expected to star alongside Cate Blanchett in the film, which is based on a book of the same name, claims website Rediff Movies.
The were doubts that Indian Summer would be made because government officials in India were concerned how the affair between Nehru and Blanchett’s character Lady Edwina Mountbatten would be portrayed.
The film has now been given the provisional green light and Hugh Grant has signed up to play Lady Edwina's husband Lord Louis Mountbatten.
Indian Summer, scheduled for release in 2011, will reportedly be directed by BAFTA winner Joe Wright (Atonement).
