Serrena Iyer and Shashwata Narain, who are both majoring in maths-related fields, received the $1,000 (£612) grant from Yale's Sudler Fund - a semester-long award which supports creative and performing arts.
The pair reportedly started writing the script for Bulldogs in Bollywood: Shake it Like Shah Rukh! in order to honour their cultural traditions.
"We were interested in Bollywood and movies, so we both kind of came up with this idea to go ahead and make a Bollywood movie," musical director Narain told The Daily Orange.
"There are so many things we are doing at the university for our résumés. We approached this movie as something we just wanted to do for fun in our semesters."
Helmer Iyer added: "It's a lot of fun watching Yale students running around campus and singing Bollywood."
Though the 15 to 20 minute film will focus on tackling Indian stereotypes, the parody will also incorporate everything associated with Bollywood.
