Paresh Mokashi denied US visa

Director Paresh Mokashi has seen his application for a US visa turned down by a consulate in Mumbai.

Mokashi, who intended to visit Los Angeles to promote his directorial debut Harishchandrachi Factory, was denied a visa because he did not have the appropriate paperwork.

He told The Times of India: "I don't really blame them. I didn't have a face that was instantly recognisable. They didn't know who I was and I had no papers to prove I had made a film that had been sent to the Oscars.

"This was my first application for an American visa, and naturally my first trip to the US. The only time I've been abroad is to London to shoot a portion of Harishchandrachi Factory. So I was completely unaware of how things work. I don't know how to handle it."

Harishchandrachi Factory, which has been nominated as India's entry to the Oscars, is a Marathi documentary about the making of India's first feature film Raja Harishchandra by Dadasaheb Phalke in 1913.
