India's foreign secretary said that the Ministry of External Affairs has taken up the issue with the US government after Khan was held at the American airport, according to Examiner.
"US has assured us, they will ascertain the facts," said Rao.
The actor, who was in America to perform at an Indian Independence Day celebration in Chicago, claimed that he was a victim of discrimination.
"I was treated shabbily just because I happened to have Khan as my last name," he said.
US officials have denied any discrimination at the airport. Border Protection spokesperson Elmer Camacho said that Khan was inspected because his baggage had not yet arrived.
