According to Express India, the actress was picked to play the famous Indian prime minister in Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story by director Krishna Shah.
The multilingual movie will be released in two parts. The first will reach cinemas at the end of 2011.
"It's such an exciting, dramatic story. The canvas of her life is too big to be contained in one film," said Shah, who reportedly took 23 years to write the script.
