The director was worried that protestors would storm the city's cinemas because of star Shah Rukh Khan's comments about Pakistani cricketers participating in the Indian Premier League.
However, he said that talking to the Mumbai police commissioner had got rid of his concerns.
"We are very happy with the assurance from Mumbai cops," Johar told New Kerala.
"They have given us personal assurance that everything will be OKnand security will be provided in every theatre. There is nothing to worry about. I am very assured about it.
"Right now the movie will release on schedule on Friday and advance booking has opened."
Reports suggest that multiplex association owners and distributors also met the commissioner to talk about the release of My Name Is Khan.
