According to Mid Day, the actress refused to perform at the bash, for which she was due to be paid 850,000 Rs (around £12,000), after the tabloid reported that she was unable to conceive a child due to stomach tuberculosis.
Reports have speculated that the function was the only awards ceremony Rai planned to perform at in 2010 and that she must have been upset to walk out on the lucrative deal.
Her husband Abishek Bachchan and the rest of his family have also allegedly decided to boycott the function out of respect for her.
