It has been suggested that the actress has been working on a script for two years and now has a cast. She reportedly wants to begin shooting in July.
"It's a small indie film and the script demands fresh faces. The actress recently met up with some newcomers and watched their screen tests," a source said.
"She isn't rushing blindly into this. She has really worked hard on putting her script together. In between her shoots, she dedicated time to this project. She's also watched lot of international cinema - especially European films - because she wants to be see the work of various lesser-known but talented directors.
"Her film is a romantic drama and happens in the span of one night. The actress is very critical of her work and hasn't talked about her script to anyone. She will discuss it once she is confident of what she's written. Even close friend Sajid Khan is unaware about her directorial plans."
Dutta's spokesperson said: "Yes she's working on a script and is to direct a film. But there's no set date as she's very happy with the way things are working out. It will happen when the time is right."
