The actor, who is taking his children Aryan and Suhana to watch the tournament, said that he has fond memories of watching football with his mother.
"Taking kids for the matches in South Africa," Khan posted on Twitter.
"Soccer is beautiful... will play today if it rains. Rains and soccer more of a turn on than a singing in the rain.
"I am emotional about FIFA. My mum and me used to stay up and watch all night... because we had got ourselves a TV and only soccer post Doordarshan. Used to keep up all night watching Rudi Voller, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Socrates and Diego Maradona. Mum and me soccer and TV fans. Never miss matches and always miss mum."
He added: "I am surprised that we were the only developing nation which did not take to football. Hope new generation takes it up now that we are leaders."
