The filmmaker, who does not speak Hindi, revealed that the film is not a remake like his earlier projects and that Vipul Shah will be producing the picture.
"Yes, my screenplay for the film with Akshay Kumar is an original, not a remake of one of my Tamil films. Like Ghajini, it is basically a love story with a strong action base," Murugadoss told Real Bollywood.
He also revealed that Ghajini star Asin Thottumkal is in line to play the female lead in the movie.
"We haven't really decided on Akshay's co-star. But yes, Asin is a strong contender," he said.
Shah is reportedly planning to spend 250million Rupees (around £3.6million) on the action sequences for Kumar in the movie.
