Sonakshi Sinha has admitted that she is too shy to take her clothes off in front of the camera for dance routines.
The daughter of Bollywood veteran Shatrughan Sinha is to appear as a village girl in her forthcoming debut Dabaang.
In an interview with New Kerala, the 23-year old said she was happy to let another actress take on the 'item number'.
The 'item number' is a Bollywood term for a song-and-dance sequence featuring a scantily-clad female character which often has nothing to do with the main story.
Katrina Kaif and other Bollywood actresses have recently revived the tradition by taking on the routine themselves.
However, Sinha said: "No I never wanted to be in the song. It's because I am a shy person. I can't be so bold and daring and I think Malaika [Arora Khan] is fabulous in the song ['Munni badnaam'] and at what she does.
"But that's not me, I didn't want to do it."
Sinha will be starring opposite Salman Khan in the feature, and credits him with encouraging her to lose weight and to act.
