Satya Bhabha has revealed details about the forthcoming Salman Rushdie movie Midnight's Children.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the UK premiere for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Bhabha revealed that the ambitious project will go into production over the winter with Water director Deepa Mehta at the helm.
"It's the first Salman Rushdie movie that's ever going to be made and it's arguably one of his greatest books," he said. "I adore that book, so it's really exciting, working with Deepa Mehta, Irrfan Khan's been cast in it and a bunch of other amazing actors."
Discussing Rushdie's screenplay adaptation of his own novel, Bhabha added: "He's really done some amazing things with the script and I don't know if anyone except for Salman could've taken those liberties and formed it into this cinematic piece."
Midnight's Children was released in 1981 to critical acclaim and earned Rushdie the Booker Prize and James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
Bhaba, Khan, Seema Biswas, Shabana Azmi, Nandita Das and Soha Ali Khan will star in the the big screen adaptation.
