It is alleged that producer Galani still owes the star 15 crore (£2.07m) in outstanding remuneration for Veer, reports Mumbai Mirror.
According to a source, Khan was originally planning to forfeit part of his salary after the film underperformed at the box office.
"There is a reason why Salman was driven to send Galani this legal notice. Galani had been flaunting the fact that he has made a 10 crore (£1.49m) profit on Veer despite the film bombing at the box office," claimed the insider.
"Obviously, when Salman got to know of this, he was furious."
This the latest controversy to affect the epic project, after 15 people were injured during filming when a wall collapsed in Amber Fort.
