The UK premiere of a film touted as Bollywood's Brokeback Mountain has reportedly failed to impress its audience.
Screened as part of the First Indian Film Festival of London, Dunno Y... Na Jaane Kyun was received with widespread derision, according to The Guardian.
The Kapil Sharma release is reported to be unintentionally funny, despite being billed as a serious drama.
Critic Nirpal Dhaliwal commented: "Though the film brings gay characters to the fore, it still has all of Bollywood's worst traits: terrible writing, clumsy editing and appalling acting. It's more likely to be a camp cult hit than serious ground-breaking cinema.
"The laughter of the audience bordered on outright cruelty. It had a cynical British audience in stitches for almost two and a half hours."
Veteran actresses Zeenat Aman and Helen deliver supporting roles in the project, which plays next at the I-VIEW Film Festival in New York.
