The filmmakers have refused to delete the offending dialogue and have instead gone to the Indian censor board to contest the ban, New Kerala reports.
According to the site, the scene features co-stars Dutt and Irrfan Khan of Slumdog Millionaire saying that the 1,000 rupee note is "pink" because it is made from the labour of "the common man".
Commenting on the case, a source said: "Why should the reference to the 1,000 rupee note be seen as derogatory? What we've said is that politicians build their wealth on the betrayed trust of common people. Isn't that the truth?"
They added that other films such as John Abraham's Aashayein had raised similar issues, but had not been subjected to complaints from censors.
