The actress was given the blessing by director Siddharth Malhotra's late grandmother during a visit to the set, the Hindustan Times has reported.
Speaking to the site, Maholtra said: "Eerily my first shot was on the same floor of Filmistan [studios] where she had shot her two most well-known films Anarkali and Taj Mahal.
"She came back to the same spot at Filmistan after 40 years just to bless me, my film and Kajol. I was her first grandchild and therefore her favourite."
Bina Rai died shortly before production ended on We Are Family, which is a remake of the Julia Roberts film Stepmom.
