The actor, producer and director became a globally popular filmmaker after the 1951 release of Awaara.
Kareena was overwhelmed by the experience of meeting his Russian fans, reports Mid Day.
"I've never seen so many of my grandfather's fans in one place. They just look at my eyes, and say 'Raj Kapoor'. I felt an instant connect."
The actress added: "I've never felt more proud to be a Kapoor. It's amazing but I've seen more fans of my grandfather here in Russia, in one day, than I have back home."
It is reported that Kareena plans to watch more of her grandfather's less well-known releases, and hopes to set up a film festival of Raj Kapoor's body of work.
