Speaking to The Times of India, the director said that Kapoor has all of the qualities of the senior actor.
"The day Ranbir does an action film and does it well, he has the potential to fill the void that Bachchan created," Anand explained.
The helmer, who worked with Kapoor in Bachna Ae Haseeno, has reunited with the actor for his new project Anjaana Anjaani.
Anand described the picture, which also features Priyanka Chopra, as a unique but commercial Hindi film: "It is the story of two strangers who meet in strange circumstances and then part as strangers."
On a recent visit to London, Yash Chopra also declared that Kapoor is the next big thing in Hindi cinema.
