The actress's relationship and break-up with Bachna Ae Haseeno co-star Ranbir Kapoor gained more column inches than her films last year.
Speaking in an interview with NDTV, Padukone said that she is able to balance the two aspects of her life but was adamant that her career would come first.
"Yes, I think I'm extremely competitive so today if I had to choose I would choose my work over my relationship," she said.
Padukone is currently filming romantic comedy Break Ke Baad (After the Break) with Imran Khan, which is due for release on November 25.
