Irrfan Khan has said that Indian cinema is being reinvented by a new generation of filmmakers.

The Slumdog Millionaire star has admitted that Bollywood films can sometimes be "empty entertainers", New Kerala reports.

In an interview with the paper, the actor said: "In Hollywood, they take an issue and turn it into a very engaging and entertaining film. We have not been able to do it.

"But again, we are trying to achieve that by making films that are not solely dependent on glamour."

He added that his own forthcoming film Paan Singh Tomar was part of the new generation.

The film, helmed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, sees the actor playing a record-breaking steeplechaser-turned-sniper in India's Chambal Valley.
