The actress will reportedly play the role of she-warrior Tulaja, the love interest of a British army captain played by Josh Hartnett.
The film also stars fellow Bollywood star Abhay Deol alongside Star Trek's Chris Pine and Bond girl Olga Kurylenko.
"I am very excited," Basu told IANS. "I am also a little nervous. Everything happened really fast."
The movie, which will be shot in Australia and India, begins filming in Brisbane this month and is slated for a 2011 release.
