Protestors in Nagpur are reported to have burnt an effigy of the actor after taking offence at Hashmi's character's behaviour in the comic film.
"The protesters claimed that Emraan was shown in bad light and that his portions should be deleted," reports the Times of India.
"This fierce form of protest was surprising, as the actor has been popular in the region and many of his films have fared well in central India territories in the recent past," added a source.
It is claimed that the star had earlier made a well-received trip to the city while promoting his last film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai.
