The actor will pair up with director Navdeep Singh on the project, currently titled Shaadi of the Dead.
A source told Mid Day: "It is very high-concept, crazy comedy. It will be Bollywood's first zombie flick. The film's tone is Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge-meets-Shaun of the Dead."
They added that the acting and directing duo are hoping to cast against type for the female lead and are considering Kangana Ranaut, Genelia D'Souza and Anushka Sharma for the part.
Deol and Singh previously worked together on Basra, which was dropped because of mounting costs.
