The actress is rumoured to have stopped talking to the director after he asked her to take the lead role in Barfee, Mumbai Mirror reports.
A source told the paper that he had rang her on her 24th birthday to bury the hatchet.
They told the paper: "They had completely stopped talking to each other. Once the conversation began, they spoke as if they never had any issues with each other."
According to the source, Ranaut had been angry that Basu was typecasting her as a character with mental illness, since the main female role in Barfee is that of a deaf and mute girl.
She has previously worked with Basu in Kites and Life... in a Metro.
