Kangana Ranaut cast in 'Department'

Kangana Ranaut has been cast opposite Abhishek Bachchan in the thriller Department.

The Fashion star will be the only female lead in the feature, to be produced by Ram Gopal Varma, according to The Times of India.

Varma told the site: "Kangana very much fits into my vision as a filmmaker.

"She is intense and emotional on screen. I've wanted to work with her, from the time she appeared in Gangster and Woh Lamhe, but I didn't want to cast her in anything insignificant. The role had to justify her presence."

The director-producer has said that the film will be a counterpart to Company, his film about the Mumbai criminal underground.

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan is also due to play a small role in the feature.
