Figures from the Hindi film industry commented on Ahuja's sentencing after the Woh Lamhe actor was found guilty of sexually assaulting his domestic assistant.
"Seven years? Seven years is a lot! I have been locked up myself, so I know what happens," Khan told IBN Live.
The 45-year-old Dabangg star had earlier been imprisoned following high-profile hit-and-run and black buck shooting cases.
Luck By Chance star Akhtar expressed faith in the Indian legal system, however, saying: "He has pleaded against the decision. If he can prove it wrong, he will come out.
"If you do something wrong, you have to go through punishment. I wish him all the strength. Hopefully, it would be proved that he is innocent."
Arshad Warsi wrote about the sentencing via his Twitter account, meanwhile, questioning why actors are targeted while political figures often go unpunished.
