The London-based actress will soon make her Bollywood debut in the film Shor in the City.
She told Mid Day: "As soon as I came to India, I started working on my Hindi. I can speak Hindi, but with an accent - not so much of an English accent, but more of a Gujarati accent."
Desai, who was crowned Miss Great Britain in 2006, will star opposite Heroes actor Sendhil Ramamurthy in the film, which follows the interrelated lives of three men trying to make it in Mumbai.
She was made joint winner with Danielle Lloyd after the decision to remove the title from the Celebrity Big Brother star was reversed.
The Bollywood newcomer reportedly asked for kissing scenes to be cut from Shor in the City because they were too graphic.
