The actor, who recently met the US President at an event in Washington, said that they share similar backgrounds, The Times of India reports.
"I feel that my life is the same as Obama's. I do not come from a filmic family, nor do I have a godfather," said Sherawat. "I'm from Haryana, but I changed the rules of the industry with my work and so has Obama."
The star, who has arrived back in India to film a song sequence for Double Dhamaal, added: "I entered an industry dominated by ones who use their surname as a passport, yet I managed to make a name for myself.
"I think we both are changing the rules of the game in our own way."
Sherawat's next release Love, Barack, set to a backdrop of the 2008 US Presidential election, is reported to be launched straight to DVD.
The actress said last year that she plans to work on an upcoming film with Salma Hayek.
