Rockstar and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan starring Kapoor and Khan respectively have been scheduled for a September 9 release this year.
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, a source said: "Ranbir and Imran are the flavour of the season. It will be interesting to see which film does better.
"Both may click, but surely both can't acquire exactly the same collections. Comparisons may be unfair but they're inevitable."
The two actors are known for their rivalry though it was reported that they had been texting each other to make up recently.
It was reported by the paper recently that there had been conflict over finances between the producers of Rockstar.
Khan was recently ousted from a project written by Rockstar writer Imtiaz Ali and replaced with Saif Ali Khan, despite having shot scenes for the film.
