The Hindi film lyricist and poet will work with composer AR Rahman on the untitled project.
Veteran filmmaker Chopra explained: "Though he has been associated with Yash Raj Films earlier, this is the first time that I will be working alongside Gulzarbhai. I am looking forward to some brilliant poetry, which I am personally very fond of."
Gulzar also expressed his excitement at collaborating with the Chandni and Lamhe director.
"Yashji is someone who understands poetry and has probably redefined the poetry of romance through the music of his movies," the 74-year-old said. "There is a sense of excitement and anticipation in working with him."
Gulzar's six-decade contribution to the film industry was honoured last year by the Nehru Centre and the University of Westminster.
The writer is perhaps best known for his international hit 'Jai Ho' from Slumdog Millionaire.
