According to Mumbai Mirror, a number of South Indian filmmakers have contacted producer Aamir Khan about buying the rights to the hit comedy.
Bollywood editor for BBC Publishing Ashanti Omkar told Digital Spy: "The runaway success of Delhi Belly the world over has sprung many creative ideas in the Indian film fraternity as a whole."
Delhi Belly, which stars Imran Khan, has defied the expectations of trade analysts in the revenue it has generated since opening last Friday.
"The idea of such a film having a Tamil version is exciting, as it is with any other Southern language, as this type of cinema has worked there," said Omkar. "A director like Venkat Prabhu, who made a film like Saroja or Chennai 60028 and Goa, can do justice to a remake."
Producers Khan and UTV are also said to be considering remaking the film themselves with Tamil actors, as well as working on a sequel to the original movie.
Although Delhi Belly is primarily an English-language film, a dubbed Hindi print is also on release in domestic markets.
